Beauty Writer
A Beauty Writer is one who does fashion reporting, writes articles about his/her experience or writes commentaries or books on new tendencies in the fashion and beauty industry. A Beauty Writer can include a number of specific issues, plus skincare and hair care, fashion, accessories and products. Being a Beauty Writer means you are on the forward-looking of new hairstyles, clothing designers and makeup advances, and you want to share what you know with others.
Training
To become a Beauty Writer, any aspirant must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Many employers prefer applicants who possess 4-year degrees in English, journalism, communications, writing, marketing or a related field of study. Preferably, applicants should have a setting in copywriting and the beauty and/or fashion industry.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Although hairstylists and beauty writers have very similar personality qualities, the careers are very diverse. Hairstylists interrelate with numerous people on a daily basis; they waste most of their workday on their feet; they are very orally and physically expressive; they are generally outgoing and assertive. Beauty writers, in contrast, tend to express themselves more through their writing than with their spoken words. They tend to work alone more often, and communication with people for professional purposes is much more critical and focused.
Employment outlookThere are several career paths in this field that you can select based on your strengths and interests. You are not restricted to work for exciting fashion magazines. You may prefer to work as one of these:
Beauty Writers are engaged by publishing companies that fabricate newspapers and magazines, as well as online websites and blogs. Furthermore, beauty writers may find work writing for television. Naturally, these roles are not listed in the newspaper classifieds. They are, on the other hand, advertised on journalism-specific websites. Networking opportunities and other resources may be contacted by joining professional groups.
Salary Potential
The salary potential of a Beauty Writer varies widely. At the high end of the salary scale are writers and editors working for beauty, fashion or trade magazines, which can easily make six figures. While these jobs are hard to come by, they do exist – and they pay well. Some writers are freelancers and they earn usually from $35 - $250(anywhere) per article, again depending on what they write and who they work for. The mid-range salaries typically start in the $40,000-$50,000 range.
