Estheticians, also called skin care specialist are beauty professional who concentrates in the study of skin care, including facials, microdermabrasion (a treatment that can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. Also can be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective) body wraps (relaxing treatments which involve hot linens, plastic sheets, and blankets), salt glows (an exfoliation treatment), waxing as a form of hair removal, cosmetic make-up services and other sophisticated services.

These esthetic professionals labor to improve the long-term health and beauty of skin by knowing the most recent in skin care products and spa methods.

Training

If you want to become an Esthetician you will have to finish 260 to 600 hours of training and pass both a written and a practical, or hands-on, test.

All skin care specialists must be licensed in the state that they are working in.

Employment Outlook

Estheticians work in a day spa, medi-spa, salon, cruise ship, resort or may support a doctor in his or her practice. Laboring with a doctor an Esthetician may perform more complex services that require a doctor's supervision, such as deep chemical skins.
