Nail Artist

Some students of beauty school tend to concentrate their studies upon nails and decide to become Nail Artists.

Nail Artists are professionals who take care and provide beauty treatment through the use of tools, creams, oils, waxes and massage routines to help shape and clean the fingernails and cuticles. Also, they perform some of the latest rejuvenating tendencies for skin and innovative nail art designs and applications such as:

  • Manicures and Pedicures
  • Paraffin Treatments
  • Natural Nail Manicures
  • Artificial Nail Applications
  • Gels, Wraps, and Acrylic Appliances
  • Creative Nail Art

The average time to work a Nail Artist is 40 hours a week. This provides more flexibility for either personal time or a supplemental job.

Training

Nail Artists are educated in the health, care and trimming of human fingernails and toenails. They are able to distinguish funguses and other nail diseases. They are also educated in the application of colors and other nail improvements. Additionally, Nail Artists are educated in appropriate nail cutting techniques and styles and are able to perform manicures, pedicures and supplementary nail styling procedures.

Most Nail Artists hold a professional license and a safety and hygiene certification.

Employment Outlook

Several people in the beauty industry believe Nail Artistry is the newest segment of the salon and spa business. Nowadays, diligent Nail Artists work in full service salons, nail salons, hotels, health clubs, resorts, day spas and more.

Tasks

Nail artists perform the following tasks:
  • Use gel and acrylic nail improvements and extensions
  • Perform manicures and pedicures
  • Use electrical equipment for nails
  • Apply attractive and airbrushed nail art
  • Perform financial transactions
  • Perform reception duties, e.g. receive bookings and arrange appointments
