If you are interested in applying to a beauty school, you should consider some aspects and requirements that each school requests.

Requirements to apply to a beauty school can vary widely from school to school, even from state to state. A few states require applicants to pass a physical test. Some states require graduation from high school while others require as little as an eighth-grade education, but in general applicants must have a high school diploma or an equivalency diploma such as a GED (General Education Development) certificate.

If you do not have a high school diploma or GED yet, it is possible that you can be accepted into beauty school as long as you are tracking your diploma or GED at the same time. These requirements are not only necessary to get into a cosmetology school but are necessary to obtain a license to practice cosmetology.

Many beauty schools offer morning or evenings classes in cosmetology.Full time programs may last from 9 to 24 months, but it takes less time to be trained for skin care specialists, manicurists, pedicurists and for others programs.

Here are some of the general requirements for apply in beauty schools:
  1. Some states could require you only middle school completion while others to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate before you can be qualified to be accepted at a cosmetology school.


  2. Note: Aspirants who do not have a high school diploma may be able to study at a beauty school if they have life experience from an apprenticeship or placement experience in the beauty industry.

  3. Applicants must be at least 16 years old. As proof, you would need to submit a copy of your birth certificate or a valid driver's license.


  4. Tuition fees in beauty schools generally depend on which State it's in. Beauty schools in States such as Houston, Chicago, Boston and New York could cost you around $10,000 for a full program, but schools in rural zones would generally set you back just $6,500.


  5. Depending on your school, you can start by completing the FAFSA form if you would like financial aid.

  6. In order to judge the potential as a cosmetology student, some of the schools take a practical exam. Aside from this, however, the creativity will be a fundamental requirement to experience success in the field.
