Shear Ego International School of Hair Design

During the 1980s, Gene Cardamone (founder of Shear Ego Salon and Spa) found it increasingly challenging to staff his four salons with well-skilled, creative stylists. His perpetual desire to improve the hair industry propelled Gene to implement a training program that, among other things, required young stylists to shadow and assist an established Shear Ego stylist for one year before endeavoring on their own.

The impact of Shear Ego's revolutionary training could be seen not only in the swelling numbers of satisfied clients, but also with the ever-increasing collection of stylist applications Shear Ego was acquiring. It was evident that Rochester's hair community wanted more of Shear Ego's progressive education and training. In 1986, Gene Cardamone responded to that demand by transforming his state-of-the-art spa and salon into Shear Ego International School.

In 1997, Gene persuaded Peter Webb, long-time friend, teacher and Great Britain's world-champion hairstylist, to leave England and join him as Artistic Director of the salon and school. Peter keeps Shear Ego Salon and Spa - and many other salons throughout the country - up-to-date on the most advanced hair practices from around the world.
