Translation, a new job opportunity



We are living in a globalized world; communication, business, relationships, etc are done with people from all over the world; that is why languages are so important; not knowing a language becomes a barrier but dominating one will open doors for you. Nowadays a word which has gained a lot of popularity is Translator. To be a translator is necessary to study however if you have a good knowledge of the language – especially grammar- you can easily work as one. Many companies are hiring people to communicate with its foreign clients; making or translating documents; writing e-mails, etc.

A translation agency is a company that makes translations on line. There are two types of agencies, the ones which are free and the ones which have a cost.
  • The ones with a cost are usually more precise and that is because it is done by someone, not a computer. A translator has to express the same idea of the text in both languages. Languages have different grammar structure, vocabulary, expressions, etc., making it impossible to translate something with exact accuracy but the translator’s job is to express the same idea even with different word or phrases.

  • The free ones give the translation immediately but most of the time losing its original meaning because they translate word by word, which doesn’t mean they don’t work, just that it is necessary to later check the order of the words or the vocabulary. With this type of translators it is a good idea to process paragraph by paragraph or even better, sentence by sentence so the software does not compromise the ideas or structures. For example to translate Spanish to English, you must make sure that all the sentences in the paragraph have a pronoun because in Spanish they are usually omitted while in English, is not grammatically correct.
Many people who speak two or more languages look for a job freelance it is a good idea for people who want to work without having strict schedules to enter or leave the office or from home. However it doesn’t mean that you will not have to stick to a schedule because the works should always be done in the time established in the agreement with the customer. To get a freelance job it is necessary to always be aware of ads to see what the companies are looking for. Also consider that when you decide to work as a translator you need to take this job very seriously because one mistake in the document can make the company not to hire you anymore and you lose clients.
