If you are interested in a beauty school, you might want to consider applying for a grant. Grants are definitely different from both scholarships and student loans in that they are free award money; so different, student loans that must be repaid and primarily need based, compared to traditionally merit based scholarships.

You should locate a beauty school you wish to attend and apply throughout them. Depending on your application process and interview, along with program costs and your financial situation, you may or may not be eligible for grant funds. Sometiemes, if you want grant subsidies you may have to wait a while because many cosmetology programs are booked.

How to Apply For a Beauty School Grants

  1. The first step in applying for a beauty school grant is to choose the beauty school you attend.
  2. Verify that school is an accredited beauty school. If so, you could be eligible for beauty school grants & loans from the federal government.
  3. After verification locate the beauty school's address and phone number to communicate. Call the school and ask to speak with the contact person, at this time request to set up an appointment to speak with a financial aid officer to start the process of applying for a beauty school grant.
  4. Use your pen and paper to write down important notes and items that you will be required to bring to the appointment, or submit from its website a request for more information that you are interested. Some schools allow you to complete the grant application online.
  5. Go to the beauty school and pick up your grant application packet and fill out all of the forms. Be honest on your application and fill out all information honestly.
  6. Make copies of your birth certificate, pay stubs, driver's license, household income sources, proof of assets, bank account statements, high school diploma or GED equivalency and social security card.
  7. Return to the beauty school, the completed grant application packet along with the required copies.
  8. Take care of giving financial information to someone who does not work at the school or does not work in the financial aid department.
  9. Wait the callback of financial aid officer to say they have processed your application.
  10. If within two weeks, you have not heard from the financial officer, you have to call to follow up.
  11. Once your application has been approved, the financial aid officer will inform you how much your grant is value. At this time you can immediately start to sign up for classes to begin your program.
  12. Your grant may not cover the full cost of tuition, so you may have to apply for a student loan or pay the difference out of your own pocket.

  • ACE Grant It is sponsored by three major beauty industry associations: the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS), the Cosmetology Advancement Foundation (CAF), and the Beauty and Barber Supply Institute (BBSI), ACE Grants are the first ever industry-wide effort to encourage highly motivated and qualified individuals to join the world of cosmetology. To apply for the ACE Grant you'll need to download the form, which can be found on the AACS website.

  • American Association of Cosmetology Schools American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) offers scholarships and grants to qualified students with several one thousand dollar and smaller awards given out annually.

  • Federal Pell Grant A Federal Pell Grant, unlike the loans, does not have to be repaid. Any student who is enrolled in an undergraduate program is eligible for this grant. Pell Grants are determined after the financial status of a student is fully reviewed. Pell Grant is awarded based on a "financial need" formula determined by the U.S. Congress using criteria submitted through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant FSEOGs are based on the funds available and do not have to be repaid after graduation. This grant provides cosmetology students (among others) with anywhere from $100 to $4,000 annually.

  • Federal Student Aid for College or Career School The U.S. Department of Education provides grants, loans, and work-study opportunities to eligible students attending participating colleges or career schools. Visit the Department's web site at www.studentaid.ed.gov.

  • Academic Competitiveness Grant Academic Competitiveness Grant (AC Grant) is available to undergraduate freshman and sophomores with outstanding academic records and with demonstrated aptitudes for leadership and service. Qualifying candidates must also be Pell Grant eligible.

  • National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART Grant) picks up where the Academic Competitiveness Grant leaves off - with $4,000 awards to undergraduate juniors or seniors studying computer science, engineering, mathematics, or sciences. Applicants must be eligible for and receiving the Pell Grant.

  • Vernon's Kansas School of Cosmetology Based in Wichita, Vernon's program offers grants to students based on academic need as well as past academic performance.
